GameLink’s Got VR Now!

GameLink VR belongs to the hugely popular adult VOD site GameLink. Not only can you find full-length VR scenes here, but there’s also a ton of non-VR videos, as well as adult toys, live cams and blogs. They currently have 49 virtual reality scenes that come from a variety of studios. It’s not the lowest amount of content I’ve come across, but it is modest by today’s VR standards.

Back in July 2016 when GameLink announced that they were going to be the first VR porn aggregation site in the industry, it peaked the interest of many in the porn community. You can read about it in this article from Venture Beat. I have to yet come across another VOD aggregate site, so they very well have a monopoly on being the only one that hosts feature-length VR scenes by a variety of producers.

No Subscriptions, It’s Pay-Per-Video

Unfortunately, watching their videos is a pricey undertaking. On account of it being a VOD site, there are no membership fees to speak of. Each video has to be purchased individually and costs $9.95, which, compared to the majority of VR sites, is expensive. You can get full access to dozens of videos for the cost of two or three here. Generously, the site will mail you their own specially branded VR device with your first purchase, but the headset seems to be even flimsier than most standard Cardboard ones. They call it a “Pop Up Viewer” and it has a retail value of $4.95. They also sell a much sturdier version for $29.95.

Download Only - No Streaming

Owing to the fact that this is a VOD site, they don’t offer streaming. Not necessarily because of any technical difficulties, but because VOD means you get a copy of the video for yourself (though GameLink does offer streaming for their huge cache of non-VR videos). I think it would’ve been impressive if the site matched its own aspirations of becoming a leader in VR porn by at the very least attempting to offer VR streaming and then overcoming the issues that continue to affect the technology.

Downloading the videos was also a little disappointing. First off, after you purchase your selection you’ll see a pop-up message informing you that your video has been shipped. This was confusing! I thought I had to wait 4-6 weeks for it to arrive and in some kind of hard-copy format! Obviously that message is their boilerplate for their other videos and from a time before streaming, like when Netflix still mailed you DVDS.

Slow Download Speeds

In order to download, you have to go to “your content,” then “library,” click the little download button and select one of four options: HD Dedicated HQ, HD Phone HQ, Dedicated LQ and Phone LQ. Many sites will let you choose from more precise downloads specifically formatted for your device, like Oculus, Gear, VIVE, Cardboard, etc. Adding insult to injury, the download speeds were among the slowest I’ve experienced. Though in their defense I will say that they played successfully in a stunning and super-realistic 180° 3D across my three devices: Oculus, Gear and Cardboard.

Scenes are Not Exclusive But What the Hey

GameLinkVR is not a terrible site to enjoy a variety VR videos, but there were just way too many flaws that I couldn’t ignore. I expected such a hugely successful adult site to invest more in this popular niche - at the very least to compete with other VR sites. And because none of their content is exclusive, you may very well be able to find those exact same scenes and for a better deal.
