Bottom Line

It seems like in AliceX we have yet another example of an ambitious studio trying to gain a competitive edge in VR porn by relying heavily on technology that has yet to be perfected. They’ve bit off more than they could chew, in this humble reviewer’s opinion, though, and have fallen short of their goal to deliver a functioning live cam VR experience.

My Full Alice X Review

The X stands for Sex

I first heard about Alice X earlier this year when it was announced online that the studio was going to marry live cams with the VR experience, so that horny toads such as ourselves would be able to interact in real time with babes that we could see in sexy, sensual 3D. Not only did this cause quite a bit of excitement in my pants, but their claim also garnered a lot of hype in various online publications. With all this buzz around the site I thought it was going to be legit and I couldn’t wait for its premiere.

At first sight, I got to say that I love their web designer. The logo is minimalist and the design sensual. If you scroll down just a little bit you’ll see the current shows that are live and ongoing. Scroll down a little further and there are instructions on how to use VR technology for newbies. This is all great. What makes it even better is that they invite you to sign up for free! That’s right, currently you can test their product for free, which means watching the public live cam show. But if you’re a veteran of live cams then you know that the real costs lie in unlocking the full experience and being able to communicate with the model more intimately. Private or exclusive communications with the cam performer will cost you 40 coins/minute and 200 coins/minute, respectively. Credits can be purchased in batches of 350 ($29.95), 700 ($59.95), 1,100 ($89.95) and 2,000 ($139.95).

Accessible Across All Major Viewers

What I did next was go to my personal account and select the VR headset I own from their list of thirteen. Right off the bat I thought their list was silly. They have four different examples of slightly different Cardboard models when we all know that the Cardboard models operate in the same way. Seems like they’re just trying to make their list look as long and as comprehensive as possible. Which of course I would commend if only it came with instructions that helped deliver the claim their product intended on creating.

I had difficulty getting the show to stream on my Oculus Rift and Gear VR despite following AliceX’s instructions for the headsets. This was irksome. I did however get it to stream on my humble Cardboard device. The show had nothing particularly unique about it to set it apart from other live cams, except for the 3D effect. As for the model, she was attractive, pleasant and responsive, though not very enthusiastic.

CGI Backgrounds make for Weird Virtual Reality

There were three shows going on at once and several throughout the day, which is good for variety’s sake. What really bugged me though was the fake CGI background that seemed cheesy and pixelated. I think the whole point of VR is to be convinced that you’ve been transported to another venue and not an obviously fake, computerized facsimile.

When I quit the show, a pop-up message appeared asking me to rate whether or not my experience was positive or negative and I answered honestly that I wasn’t impressed. A follow-up message appeared asking me why that was and among the options was if it was because I couldn’t hear the performer or if the performer couldn’t hear me. What that indicated to me is that AliceX is well aware that these are commonly occurring problems with their product. I understand that the beta phase requires engaging customers as a way of working out the problems, but still, I can’t help but feel like I was built up for a fall.

Finally, A Real Live VR Sex Cam Site!

Now, their one possible saving grace is the fact that they’re still saying their site is in its beta phase. So it’s not like they’re saying they’ve worked out all the kinks yet. They know they haven’t! There’s no doubt in my mind that in due time VR live cams will not only become easy to use, but even commonplace. But until then, with too few shows and failing to meet up to its one significant claim to fame, AliceX has proven to be a letdown.
